Hannah’s marathon effort to fight childhood liver disease

When Hannah Daniels from Bromham, Bedford did the Great North Run in 2016, it certainly gave her the running bug. Now the 31 year old childminder is training for the London Marathon in a bid to raise even more awareness and funds for a charity very close to her heart, Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).

“Soon after our two year old daughter, Poppy, was born she was diagnosed with the incurable liver and lung condition, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency,” explains Hannah. “It came as a real shock but CLDF were a real help to us with frequent calls, emails and lots of helpful literature. They also fund vital research and have put us in touch with other families whose children have liver disease which we found really helpful.

“We are one of the fortunate ones – Poppy is doing really well now – but we want to know that CLDF will be there for her as she grows up and that they can continue to support other parents facing that life-changing diagnosis or going through tough times. I did the Great North Run for CLDF and found that I enjoyed the training and fundraising so much that I wanted a bigger challenge, so London Marathon here we come!

“I’m planning to raise £2,000 for CLDF. Fundraising is going well so far and so is training. I am running four times a week now which will help prepare me for the marathon and have the added bonus of getting me in shape for my wedding in Cuba in May!”

Alison Taylor, Chief Executive of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation commented: “CLDF is the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases, by providing information and emotional support, funds for research and a voice for all those affected. In order to do this however, we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations so we are delighted that Hannah has decided to run for us once again. A marathon is a huge commitment in terms of training so we really appreciate all the work she has put in and hope she thoroughly enjoys her first marathon experience!”
