We are delighted to announce that the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) will be joining forces with us this year to support Big Yellow Friday.
ESPGHAN is a multi-professional organisation whose aim is to promote the health of children with special attention to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and nutritional status and this partnership between ESPGHAN and CLDF will see Big Yellow Friday launched on the European stage for the very first time. Childhood liver disease is increasing in prevalence and is now thought to affect up to one in ten children in Europe. ESPGHAN is therefore determined to drive pan-European awareness of liver disease in children and by building on the success of Big Yellow Friday in the UK, ESPGHAN believe they have a powerful force to achieve this.
“We look forward to playing our part, producing a number of resources and assets to help increase awareness and understanding of childhood liver disease” said Deirdre Kelly, Chair of the ESPGHAN Public Affairs Committee.
“As part of this you can expect to see a brand-new infographic, video and manifesto as well as a social media campaign, aimed at achieving maximum impact and delivering Big Yellow Friday on the European scale.”
ESPGHAN are calling on policy-makers to work closely with national societies and patient organisations to help ensure childhood liver diseases are better understood, prevented and treated effectively, ensuring that infants, children and adolescents can live the best possible life. As part of the campaign ESPGHAN will be encouraging colleagues and friends from across Europe to show their support on Friday 6th March by wearing yellow, and help drive the case for further awareness and support for those affected by childhood liver disease. They also hope as many people as possible can spread the word and join the 2020 Big Yellow Friday social media campaign, The Big Yellow Selfie, by taking a photo with anything yellow in it and uploading the picture across your social channels using the hashtag #BigYellowSelfie. Don’t forget to use #BigYellowFriday and #BYF20 for all activities on social media throughout the campaign!
