ESPGHAN COVID-19 advice for parents

Colleagues at European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) have been working hard to produce simple and co-ordinated guidance for both professionals and parents during the COVID-19 period.

The short guide provides information and guidance for parents on gut, liver and nutritional conditions in children. It highlights:

  • the risks for children with a gut, liver or nutritional condition
  • guidance for parents with a child that has already been diagnosed with a gut, liver or nutritional condition
  • how to act when seeking medical help and the key symptoms which require parents to take their child to hospital

In formulating this guidance, experts wish to help and reassure all parents regarding the impact and risks for children with these conditions including those undergoing immunosuppressive treatments. For this reason, they encourage normal management of paediatric liver patients to be maintained where possible.
