Great North Run
The UK’s biggest half marathon is back! Join Team CLDF and make a real difference to those we support.
Date: Sunday 8 September 2024
The Great North run is the UK’s most iconic half marathon and since 1981 has seen over a million runners take to the streets of Newcastle including world famous athletes. At 13.1 miles long, the course is tough but a challenge on many runners’ bucket lists.
The North East’s landmark event is back, as the Great North Run returns to the glorious streets of Newcastle on Sunday 8 September. Experience that epic South Shields finish line celebration with us, as we return to the iconic city to sea course in 2024.
Feel the region come alive when the Great North Run comes to town and soak up the big event experience by taking on the world’s biggest half marathon. Make it a family affair and ensure your budding running stars of the future get their shot at glory in the Junior & Mini event on the Quayside on Saturday 9 September.
Starting in the heart of the city, enjoy a running route of the city and out to the coastal town of South Shields as you cross over the notorious Tyne Bridge and past Gateshead International Stadium towards that unforgettable finish line feeling and post-race fish and chips.
With the infamous high-energy entertainment zones, unbelievable crowd support with cheers of ‘Oggy, Oggy, Oggy’ echoing, and local musicians providing the soundtrack to your run, the Great North Run is a party atmosphere from start to finish.
The greatest reward in taking part is the sense of achievement as you cross the finish line, but a shiny new medal, a snazzy finishers t-shirt and a finisher’s bag filled with goodies will await you at the end of the run.
It’s a run for everyone, of all ages and abilities, whether it’s your first event or your 50th. It’s an inclusive celebration of Geordie running, with music blazing, crowds buzzing, legs pumping and fists bumping. Fill in the form below to apply for a spot on Team CLDF!
