It’s Prom season and we love to hear how, even though school days may have sometimes been disrupted by their liver condition, our young people have been enjoying their big night alongside their peers.
Jimmy, who was diagnosed with autoimmune liver disease nine years ago, had a great time. “He had an amazing night,” says dad, Paul. “Danced the night away and was voted ‘best dressed boy’ by his fellow students!”
Sophie didn’t have the prom dress shopping stress endured by many Year 11 girls – she wore the dress her mum wore for her engagement party over 20 years ago!
“Prom night was particularly special for Sophie,” explains mum, Louise. “She missed leaving her nursery school as that was when she received her liver transplant. And then of course she couldn’t have a proper leaving from primary school due to Covid. So, it was brilliant that she finally got to enjoy a proper celebration.

“Sophie and her twin, Megan ended up at different secondary schools. Fortunately, however, their proms took place on the same night so they could get dressed and ready together! It made for a very special evening.”
Good luck to all our young people who have completed their GCSEs and are moving on. Please tell us what you are up to next as we like to know these things! Email youngpeople@childliverdisease.org.
