Fresh from taking part in the London Marathon and raising over £5000 for British Liver Trust in the process, 79-year-old Paul Jenkins flew to Alabama to take part in the World Police and Fire Games.
The event attracts over 8500 current and retired first-responders from almost 80 countries taking part in 70 different sports, and for Paul who served 12 years in the Royal Navy and 26 in the prison service, it was the 16th time he had competed.
“It’s an amazing event and a great opportunity to meet athletes from all over the world,” says Paul’s wife Liz. “And although it was very hot and humid, it didn’t stop Paul from taking part in four running events in the 75 – 79 age category and getting medals in all of them!

“He won gold in the 10K cross country race and the half marathon and silver in the 5K and 10K track events.
“We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and I’m so proud of him. Paul is now back training in the more comfortable UK drizzle, and we’ll be getting into fundraising gear again as he prepares for next year’s London Marathon!”
