James takes on Sheffield half to fight childhood liver disease

James Powell of Fulwood is training hard for next weekend’s Sheffield Half Marathon (September 26) in a bid to raise funds for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).

“I found out about CLDF when my cousin’s young son was diagnosed with a rare liver disease,” says James, 43. “Childhood liver disease currently means a lifetime of medical care and this charity provides young people and families with much needed information and support as well as funding research.

“Smaller charities like this need our support more than ever, following the pandemic and I wanted to do my bit. I also find that running, particularly if I’m supporting a worthwhile cause, has been great for my mental and physical wellbeing.”

James, who is Head of Communications for Irwin Mitchell solicitors, only took up running three years ago, but is relishing the challenge of a half marathon. “I have done this event once before, in 2019, so would like to improve on my time. Sheffield is known for being built on seven hills so running here is never easy, but I do enjoy it though and aim to be in reasonable shape for the day!”

Alison Taylor, Chief Executive of Children’s Liver Disease Foundation commented: “CLDF is the only UK charity dedicated to fighting all childhood liver diseases and we rely on voluntary donations, so we are delighted that James has been bitten by the running bug and is taking on the Sheffield Half for us.”
