Lexie, who lives in Swansea, was just six when she was diagnosed with auto-immune liver disease.
“Her condition is managed with regular medication and medical checks,” says her mum Joann. “The main side effect is that she gets very tired and often needs to take a rest during normal activities, however much she wants to join in like everyone else.
“CLDF have been there for us with information and support since Lexie was diagnosed, so when we heard they were putting on an event especially for families in Wales, we were very keen to go along.”
CLDF’s ‘glamping’ weekend in the Brecon Beacons took place on the hottest weekend of the summer, proving ideal for a host of outdoor activities, particularly those on the water!
“Lexie loved it,” says Joann. “She was able to join in all the fun and she loved the fact that she was doing so with people her age who also have a liver condition. We had only met other children in her situation at hospital before, so this was really different.
“For us as parents it was good to meet others in the same situation and we are already in contact now through Facebook.
It was great that siblings were included too. In fact our whole family enjoyed it. The CLDF team were just brilliant – they had so much time for everyone. It might have been our first experience of a CLDF event but Families Officer, Lois is brilliant at keeping us informed of what’s happening so we will definitely attend others as I can see how much it benefitted Lexie.”
