Many of you will have seen last week’s headlines about the abolition of NHS England and may have questions about the implications for your child’s care. We don’t have all the answers immediately but would like to offer some clarification.
NHS England is the body which was set up to oversee the day to day running of the NHS in England in 2012. The Prime Minster has explained that the decision to abolish it has been made:
- to save money – it is hoped the move will generate £100m in savings
- to reduce bureaucracy and cut the amount of time spent by frontline staff completing paperwork, so that waiting times can be reduced,
- to bring the NHS back under the control of the government, specifically the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).
NHS England currently has responsibility for delivering specialised services which includes paediatric liver care. We are therefore now working to establish what changes, if any, this will mean for our families and will update you as soon as we know.
In the meantime, if you have any particular concerns or questions, email us at families@childliverdisease.org
