These angels gave him life

Dylan’s health issues led to him having two transplants as mum, Joanne, explains.

Dylan was born on April 10th, 2002. He had many health problems and when he was about three weeks old, it became clear that one of those was with his liver. So, he was transferred from our local hospital in Bristol up to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where a diagnosis of biliary atresia was confirmed. He immediately underwent a Kasai procedure but unfortunately it didn’t work. By August we were told he would need a liver transplant.

We didn’t need to wait long. The following month we got our call. Dylan was just five months old, and the transplant was a success – in fact we have just celebrated his 22-year anniversary.

Dylan did have other health issues which also resulted in a kidney transplant in January last year.  He is now an active 22-year-old who works in retail, drives and enjoys life to the max.

If it wasn’t for organ donors, I wouldn’t have my boy today. I may have given birth to Dylan, but these angels gave him life.
