With preparations in full swing for our biennial fundraising event, the Chefs’ Gala Dinner, we spoke to people who have attended in previous years about what makes it such a unique event.
Georgina was in no doubt: “I have biliary atresia so obviously have a close connection to CLDF but in all honesty this evening is all about the food – it’s just amazing!” she says. “It’s not often that you enjoy a meal prepared by a Michelin starred chef but to have three of them creating your menu is something very special – and it really shows.
“I know it’s not a cheap event but I think it’s actually brilliant value when you consider the fantastic food, the service and the surroundings. Everybody is looking fabulous and you get to meet so many amazing people. There isn’t anything else quite like it and I’m so looking forward to it.”
Georgina’s dad, John found the evening a really positive event.
“When your child is diagnosed with liver disease, you seem to live in a world of hospital stays, medical tests and uncertainty” he says. “What struck me about this event is that it was so jolly. It’s great to hear good news stories about what young people have achieved and to know that there is real hope for the future. And of course meeting all these different chefs is not something you can normally do so that really adds to the evening. We’re lucky that Georgina is doing really well but it’s fantastic to know that the money raised on an evening such as this will benefit other families coping with liver disease in their child.”
Renowned interior designer, Celia Sawyer, who is a patron of CLDF, agrees: “The Chefs’ Gala Dinner is a wonderful event. Hearing about all the lovely stories from the charity and their work is wonderful, but it is also such fantastic food, and it is really interesting to meet the chefs themselves who create such a great evening. I am really looking forward to returning this year, it is my favourite event of all the charities I support.”
